He was active in his community, serving on the town planning board and town recreation commission, coaching soccer and basketball, and singing and playing guitar at church. He served on mission trips to Appalachia and Haiti with his church. He loved traveling and exploring destinations in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania with his family on the weekends. In the summers he would often travel to Maine with his family and extended family, where he would often be found outside traversing the rugged coast and finding the best local seafood.
An avid cyclist, he participated in local races as well as a week-long mile ride in the Middle East with his brother, Peter, in Retiring from finance in gave Steve more time to spend pursuing his hobbies and visiting his children and family. In the fall of he sailed with his brother and a friend on a sailboat in the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to San Diego. He pursued advanced sailing certifications in the Chesapeake Bay with his son, Brian, in April of this year.
Most recently he returned from exploring Ireland, Scotland and Northern England with his wife, sister Amy, and friends. Tom was born at home in the small coal-mining town of Dickson City, Pennsylvania. He moved to Paterson, New Jersey in and then to Madison in , where he resided upon his passing. Tom graduated from Paterson Central High School in June , where he was active in track and football. After high school he volunteered for the Army, attending basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. An excellent marksman, he was awarded the Expert Rifleman badge. Tom was assigned as a Cadre Platoon Leader for one cycle and served with the 6 th Infantry Division occupation forces in South Korea as an 81 mm mortar gunner and squad leader.
In subsequent years he undertook advanced studies in New York City at Columbia University and the former Institute of Design and Construction and was also specially trained in fallout shelter design. Some of his most notable projects included the seven-building mega-structure of Bergen Community College and various facilities for Rutgers University and Middlesex County College. He was the Field Architect for a major addition to the Sparta High School which was the first successful building systems fast track high school in New Jersey.
In his younger years, Tom was an expert downhill skier, starting in the era of wooden skis with lace-up leather boots. Speed skating was another special talent and love, and he was proud to have been a finalist in the Silver Skates competition held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. During high school and college he enjoyed hiking, camping and canoeing with friends in the Adirondack Mountains. He was the winner of a national commercial art contest and in recent years began making his own greeting cards -- decorated with art and photos, written in his distinctive architectural handwriting, and addressed to their recipients in beautiful calligraphy.

Being the strong woman she was, Diane completed radiation therapy and was a Survivor. Diane retired in January and moved back to New Jersey in August to live with her son John and his family. For the last 7 years Diane has filled her days with fun, laughter, and good times. One of Diane's hobbies was fantasy sports. She was part of 3 fantasy football leagues and 2 baseball leagues. Diane had a blast visiting Pittsburgh on many occasions to watch her Steelers.
She also cheered on her Mets from the stands time to time. She loved watching Tiger Woods master his golf game and also enjoyed watching Rafael Nadal play tennis. Diane was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer in June Grateful for the life she lived, Diane decided to spend her last days cherishing time with family and friends.
